Thanks to Twitch, it is now possible to attend surprising events. Perhaps during your viewing, and if you know Antoine Daniel well, you came across a strange browser game called GeoGuessr. Well, imagine that the World Team Championships took place this weekend on Twitch and that the competition was a great success: we summarize the new event that marked Twitch after the GP Explorer!
GeoGuessr Team World Cup, the first competition on TwitchA first edition with phenomenal success
GeoGuessr Team World Cup, the first competition on Twitch
At the very beginning of September, streamer Antoine Daniel couldn’t be more proud to announce that he would present, and host on his Twitch channel, the World Championships of Geoguessr, a game available on a web browser whose popularity has continued to grow due to its concept as playful as it is original. Randomly transported to a place on the globe, you must succeed in locating it on a map as precisely as possible by walking around, in the surroundings and within a given time, as if you were using Google’s “Street View” feature. Maps! Over the years, the players have improved to reach a most impressive level, thus giving the idea of setting up an international competition with, of course, a very nice cash prize of 25,000 euros at stake!
For this event, which took place on Saturday October 22 on Antoine Daniel’s Twitch channel, the cream of the crop was gathered: 30 teams of three or four players (20 chosen according to their competitive profile and 10 others chosen randomly) competed against each other — made up of group stages then a final draw of sixteen teams — from the most tense and fierce through different game modes to increasingly complex rules. Live from Paris and accompanied by other seasoned commentators such as MisterMV or Étoiles, the organizers of the GeoGuessr Competitive League put on the show, but it was indeed the abilities of the participants that stunned the spectators present on Twitch!
A first edition with phenomenal success
On D-Day, Antoine Daniel had made an appointment with his community, as well as that of GeoGuessr, to an anthology live of more than fourteen hours to elect the most successful team able to deduce their location in record time. And speaking of records, this very first edition clearly represents one since it managed to gather a very impressive number of spectators, given the game in question, since there were 35,000 on average in front of their screen : the competition can even boast of having reached a peak of nearly 45,000 viewers. And even, the numbers don’t stop there and only reinforce the prowess of this inauguration of the GeoGuessr Team World Cup.
Thank you all! I was afraid it would suck but it was so good! Thank you for your support, now I’m going to die

The event almost attracted 154,000 unique viewers which made it possible to explode the viewing scores of Antoine Daniel’s channel since the cumulative number of live hours (thanks to all the spectators) is estimated at approximately 31.6 million hours. However, it is not the streamer the biggest winner of this event: in reality, they are the members of the Speed Plonkers team (composed of German player Kodiak, Swedish player Maccem and French player Blinky) as they beat A Community Team 3-0 leaving them no chance to take the lead ! All that seems very good as for the organization of a second edition during the next months, at least we hope so!
