Motorola has just presented the Razr 2022, its completely new version of the foldable that the smartphone manufacturer launched in 2019.
Motorola claims to have built on its first foldable and listened carefully to consumer feedback. The Razr 2022 also gets a powerful camera, strong battery and an impressive-looking display.
Like its predecessor, the new Razr has a minimalist design that has been further streamlined. Motorola wanted to emphasize portability and style. The matte finish of the housing already looks good.
Motorola Razr 2022: from displays
On the front we see a ‘Quick View’ display of 2.7 inches. As is known, you can quickly read messages and other notifications or take photos without having to open the phone.
If you unfold it, you will be greeted by an FHD+ OLED display with a screen diagonal of 6.7 inches. That also gets a high refresh rate, up to 144 Hz. According to Motorola, the P-OLED technology ensures that you will see more than a billion vibrant colors and deep contrast. HDR10+ is also supported.
In order for the two displays to work well together, the smartphone manufacturer has designed a new hinge that can keep the device open in ‘Flex View’. For example, it can remain on one half of the table, so that you can work and relax hands-free. A split screen function allows you to have multiple apps open at the same time. For example, you can chat with a friend while you are watching a video, and take a group photo or make a video call hands-free.
Motorola Razr 2022: Specifications
Under the hood is the now well-known Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, currently Qualcomm’s fastest mobile silicone. It is not yet known whether you will get through a whole working day with your battery, as the battery with its 3,500 mAh is 25 percent larger than that of the Razr from 2019 and can be charged twice faster, thanks to 30W TurboPower.
The cameras are also top notch. For example, the main lens is 50 MP strong and is equipped with 2.0μm Ultra Pixels, which in theory should perform up to four times better in low light, resulting in sharper photos. Thanks to 32x as many focusing pixels, the main lens can focus much faster, Motorola says. Instant All-Pixel Focus is the name of the technology. Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) counteracts shaky hands for more stable images. There’s also a 13MP ultrawide lens, and the macro lens is said to fit up to 4x the detail of the subject within a frame. It is said to get you 3.5 times closer than a standard lens.
Finally, there is support for spatial audio via Dolby Atmos. The Razr is the first foldable with a triple microphone structure, for even better call quality. You can even use the foldable as a trackpad to play games on a larger screen or (half unfolded) as a webcam.
