Square Enix, the makers of Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, have on October 13th the trademark rights secured for “Symbiogenesis” in Japan. This information was leaked to the public on October 23. So far so unexciting. But if you look at the meaning of symbiogenesis, you will discover a thin thread. Symbiogenesis describes the merging of two or more different organisms. This creates a new organism, such as lichens. If you want to read more about it, we refer you to Wikipedia here.
This form of the emergence of new organisms is also the basis of a well-known Square Enix game: Parasite Eve. Although the facts are virtually non-existent, this could be seen as an indication for a successor to the three games that have already been released. After Part 1 in 1998, Part 2 in 2000 and the only loosely connected “The 3rd Birthday” in 2010, it’s definitely time to give a PS1 classic a fully-fledged new part. Symbiogenesis would be a nice title, we think.
