Microsoft has published a financial report across the board for the 1st quarter of fiscal year 2023 (July 1 – September 30 of the calendar year).
The total revenue of the entire corporation for the quarter was $50.1 billion (net income of $17.6 billion). The revenue of the Microsoft Gaming division at $3.61 billion is a record figure for the gaming division of the corporation for the 1st quarter of the financial year. This figure is 0.5% higher than last year’s result. Revenue from sales of devices grew by 13%, largely due to increased shipments of Xbox Series X. Revenue from content and services, on the contrary, decreased by 3%, despite the growth in popularity gamepass. This is due to a decrease in the number of releases from their studios and partners over this period. PC Game Pass subscription grew by 159% over the year, the exact number of subscribers is not given. The number of players who tried Xbox Cloud Gaming exceeded 20 million people.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella notes that the company expected less results from Xbox, suggesting, on the contrary, a decrease in revenue compared to last year. Such assumptions were made on the basis of the fact that users began to play less than during the coronavirus.
