Superman is back! More specifically, Henry Cavill returns as the Man of Steel in Warner Bros. Discovery’s DCEU. What was initially just a rumor has finally come true. Recently, the Witcher actor shared a new picture of himself in the iconic red and blue suit, telling fans that they have several big projects to look forward to. In addition, Cavill was finally able to hold his first official Superman interview in a long time. In it, he revealed that his version of the hero will now change a bit.
Henry Cavill never gave up hope
Henry Cavill never gave up hope of returning to the big screen as Superman. In his live interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said, “I told myself I’m going to let it sit in the background and let it thrive. I never lost hope, that was key for me.”
The wait was definitely worth it for him. At this point we must first issue a short spoiler warning. If you haven’t seen the DCEU film Black Adam, you’d better skip to the next heading.
Because it was only recently that Henry Cavill was able to put his long-awaited screen appearance as Superman into practice. In a brief appearance on Black Adam, he was able to reappear in the blue and red suit and usher in a new era of the Man of Steel.
A happy Superman for the DCEU
This new era will also bring changes for the long-established character. In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Cavill explained that fans can expect a “more hopeful” version of the iconic DC Comics hero.
“The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I’ve never given up hope,” Cavill said in an interview. “It’s fantastic to be here now and talking about it again. The character has such a bright future ahead of him. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously fun-loving Superman.”
Although Cavill’s portrayal of Supes is generally well-received, the dark take on the character he played in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has drawn criticism. In Justice League, he was given the opportunity to add a playful touch to his performance, as well as that with a mustache covered by CGI.
Greatest moment in Cavill’s career
Cavill went on to reveal that while he was filming The Witcher season 3, he received the call to film his Black Adam scene, but was not allowed to reveal why he was asking for a break from filming.
“I went to the Warner Bros. studio in the UK and put the suit back on,” he added. “That was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel…if it was going to be something very emotionally connecting because I was going to put the ‘Man of Steel’ suit back on. I have that I chose the suit mainly because of the nostalgia it has. It was important for me to be able to stand there and enjoy this moment. It’s one of the most beautiful moments of my career. It’s a great feeling to have the opportunity to to wear it again.”

Nicolas Cage as Superman: “There might still be a chance!”
Nicolas Cage in the Superman costume sounds absurd, but it should have actually come to the cinema in the late 90s.
Several Superman projects in the pipeline
Cavill’s statements from the interview and from his short info video on Instagram suggest that it won’t stay with a short appearance and that we will see the actor more often in the role of the Man of Steel in the future. Though Cavill knows more about future projects, he didn’t reveal any further details: “You know I can’t tell you that”. There is said to be an approved project involving the Black Adam and Superman clash, as well as rumors of a Superman solo film. Fans can definitely be excited.
