In 2018 the company Epic Games announced the closure of the online shooter Paragon, which went into early access two years earlier. The game could not stand the competition with the explosive popularity of Fortnite, and they decided to sacrifice it in order to throw all their strength into a new hit. Having deprived hundreds of players of their favorite entertainment, the company, nevertheless, promised to return the money to everyone, regardless of the platform. And then she completely released all the assets of Paragon, for the creation of which she spent $ 12 million.
A huge library of unique characters with animations, special effects, sound effects and textures, as well as thousands of environmental elements has already come in handy for many independent developers. In particular, it was used by the creators Fault: Elder Orb and Predecessor.
And now a South Korean studio Netmarble closes the circle in a way: she’s working on a free MOBA called Paragon: The Overprime. All free assets of Paragon are involved in its creation, in addition, Epic Games allowed using its own brand for the new version of the online project.
It is not yet known how different The Overprime will be from the original Paragon. But soon the creators begin the final testing of the game before releasing it into early access. Its premiere should take place in November, and the game will be available, including on the Epic Game Store.
