Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also features cross-play between PC and consoles this year. The feature should also be able to be deactivated in principle, but unfortunately this is not currently possible on one platform.
The new shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now and also supports cross-play between PC and consoles. However, if you want to deactivate this due to the different control options, you should also be able to do so. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, this currently only works on the PlayStation.
Xbox and PC players currently have no way to disable cross-play in their settings. There have already been major discussions about this on Reddit, among others. It is unclear why this option is available to PlayStation players but not to PC and Xbox players. It is also unclear whether this is a mistake or intentional on the part of the makers.
At least there is a workaround for Xbox players: You can generally prevent and disable cross-play at the system level. However, PC gamers do not have such an option.
Interesting in this context: The option was still available on all platforms during the beta, so, somewhat surprisingly, it is now not available on PC and Xbox. So it might really be a bug that is still being fixed.
The option is so interesting because many players also like to do without cross-play in order to be able to enjoy a fairer competitive gaming experience. Many find it unfair to gamble with PC players on consoles because they have more precise and faster keyboard and mouse controls and potentially higher frame rates. Conversely, aiming aids for controller control are also criticized by console players.
Infinity Ward has said in the past that savvy gamers with a mouse and keyboard should have an advantage over controller players, but for a lot of gamers, the controller variant should statistically be the better option.
