Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola commented on the fact that the club sold a number of key players in the summer to direct rivals Arsenal and Chelsea:
“Raheem Sterling, Alexander Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus have earned the right to choose. If they hadn’t gone to Chelsea or Arsenal, they would have stayed here. They should play in top clubs. We want them to have good memories of their time at Manchester City, the people who took care of them and their families here.
Who are we to say, “You can’t go there?” I do not like it. We have made incredible transfers, so everyone is happy. I can’t say a single bad word about them. Thanks to their game, we have become the club that we are. Joe Hart, David Silva, Vincent Kompany… Thanks to these people, we have become such a club.”
