Kelly Marcel is set to direct Marvel and Sony’s Venom 3 starring Tom Hardy.
According to Deadline, Marcel and Hardy will produce the film, while Marcel will write the screenplay from Marcel and Hardy’s story.
Hardy plays the role of Eddie Brock, a reporter who gets terribly unlucky and has his body taken over by a misbehaving alien symbiont. Venom 3 could be the end for Hardy as the meaty anti-hero: the actor previously posted a photo of the film’s script with the caption “That’s it” and a GIF with the caption “The Last Dance”.
While no plot details were revealed, the second film ended with Detective Patrick Mulligan (Stephen Graham) appearing to have absorbed the supersonic powers of the supervillain Shrik (Naomie Harris). The film also featured a post-credits scene in which Eddie and Venom are transported to a universe where Tom Holland’s Spider-Man exists. Venom 2 grossed over $506 million worldwide, which Sony bosses Sanford Panich and Josh Greenstein said led to the successful release of Top Gun: Maverick.
The first two films, Venom and Venom 2, were directed by Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis respectively. Marcel wrote the screenplay for each film. She also wrote the script for the first Fifty Shades of Grey.
