According to a report published on the pages of The Verge, one of Elon Musk’s first initiatives now that he owns Twitter is to turn Twitter Blue into a subscription from $ 20 a month which includes among the advantages the status “Verified” of an account, even for those who have already obtained this recognition. Not only that, the tycoon has threatened to fire the team in charge of the project if it does not integrate the changes to the service by the deadline set for November 7, 2022.
The Verge claims to have received the information from some internal sources and by reading internal Twitter emails. At the moment Twitter Blue It is priced at $ 4.99 per month and offers some perks, including the ability to edit previously posted tweets, access new features early, and more.
The status “Verified” is assigned to an account (recognizable by a blue badge next to the name) of public interest that is considered authentic, that is, not used by an imposter. The platform only assigns status to an account that it deems authentic, well-known and active. It is currently getting a verified Twitter profile completely freeyou just need to comply with the eligibility requirements.
The new subscription should therefore allow any user to “purchase” the Verified status, while those who have already obtained it, according to The Verge sources, have 90 days to subscribe to Twitter Blu or will lose the badge. In practice, he will be forced to pay the subscription price.
Musk has been clear in the months leading up to its acquisition that he wants to revamp the way Twitter verifies accounts and manages bots. Also just yesterday he tweeted: “The whole verification process will be renewed.”
Also according to The Verge sources, the Twitter team has been commissioned to work on the changes to Twitter Blu and the verified accounts on Sunday 30 October and apparently will have to complete the work by 7 November, under penalty of dismissal. Which is a pretty stringent ultimatum, as they basically have a little over a week to make the required changes.
