November 2nd, 2022 at 9:31 am by Maximilian Hohm – Cherry has implemented the MX Ergo Clear community mod after a long time and is now selling the switches itself. The springs of the MX Clear switches are replaced with springs from MX Black switches replaced, which should significantly improve the typing feel. Therefore, read more about Cherry’s new switches and which variants are planned below.
PC gaming is constantly changing and new trends don’t always catch on. However, if they are established, the manufacturer will have access to a market worth billions, in which many users are willing to spend money on new and interesting technology. Mechanical keyboards are one of these success stories and are now established input devices before gaming and office PCs. In contrast to a rubber dome keyboard, they offer a firmly defined pressure point that is still there even after prolonged use. There are now mechanical switches from many manufacturers and in many versions, but the German manufacturer Cherry is still the market leader and the name when it comes to mechanical switches in keyboards.
Mechanical Keyboard Switches: Cherry MX makes switch mod “Ergo Clear” official
In addition to the well-known and popular switches such as the classic MX Brown, MX Blue or MX Black, Cherry now offers a large number of switches with different pressure points, volumes and other factors. The company’s latest product, the Cherry MX Ergo Clear, trades under the company’s name, but was penned by user “mtl” in 2011. At that time, he had the springs from the MX Clear switches with springs from the MX -Black switches replaced. As a result, he achieved a softer typing feel and a subjective combination of MX Clear and MX Brown switches.
His modification was very well received in the community and many users converted their keyboards accordingly. Now Cherry has followed this example and released these switches with their own touch. Unlike “mtl”, instead of a polytetrafluoroethylene lubricant, a high-performance lubricant was used, which allows 50 million keystrokes to be guaranteed. The MX Ergo Clear switches will also be available in an RGB version, which offers a clear distinction from the classic darker switches. Both versions are said to be available in three- and five-pin configurations and will be installed in upcoming keyboards.
