Square Enix Montreal, which was acquired by Embracer Group and renamed Onoma, is closing.
As you can certainly remember, in August the Embracer Group bought the “western” part of Square Enix with Square Enix Montreal. A short time later, in early October 2022, the company was renamed Onoma.
It has now been announced that Embracer Group has closed Onoma at the end of October. Eidos Montreal is unaffected by the closure and will retain some employees to focus on developing new PC and console games.
It was also announced that Eidos Montreal has discontinued a previously unannounced game and is working on a completely new game brand. In addition, the company is said to have expanded its partnership with Microsoft and to help with various exclusive Xbox developments, such as Fable 4 at Playground Games.
In addition, it is said to have leaked that they are working on a new Deus Ex game, which is said to be in an extremely early stage of development.
