Rumors are accelerating around the future new range of high-end smartphones from Samsung, the Galaxy S23. Today, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the center of attention due to a hallway noise related to its photo sensor.
Samsung recently announced that its Galaxy S22 lineup is a real hit this year, and it’s a safe bet that the South Korean firm hopes to repeat the feat with the Galaxy S23. This new range should not be formalized before next February, but it is already regularly talked about with rumors emanating from the corridors of the industry.
If the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is already pretty good when it comes to photography, the company is obviously hoping to do even better with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. And it’s not a revelation, the competition is tough on the photophone market. So the firm could strike very hard.

A very powerful photo sensor for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Samsung would have decided to equip its Galaxy S23 Ultra with a 200 megapixel photo sensor that would look like no other, and for good reason: it will be developed and manufactured in-house. This would allow the manufacturer to stand out from a competition for which it already produces 200 megapixel sensors: we find Samsung’s leg in the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra and Xiaomi 12T Pro released this year.
According to leaker Ice Universe, Samsung is preparing a 200-megapixel module with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, f/1.7 aperture and 0.6 µm pixels. This would allow the smartphone to take photos in 12.5 megapixels using the technology of the pixel binning, for extremely precise rendering that combines 16 pixels into 1. Obviously, nothing would prevent taking photos in 50 megapixels by combining 4 pixels in 1, but also taking shots in 200 megapixels allowing you to greatly zoom inside. We recently saw this kind of result during our test of the Xiaomi 12T Pro.
A first photo taken with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
The SamMobile site reports a first photo that would have been taken with the sensor of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, broadcast on the Weibo social network by Ice Universe. The snapshot is placed next to a photo that would have been taken in 1080p with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for comparison. Both shots were scaled x16 to provide an overview of the level of detail.
The difference is rather obvious, with more details in the photo allegedly taken with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, this result is not surprising since it is the characteristic of 200 megapixel sensors to restore more details when zooming in the photo. It remains to be seen whether the rest of the performance will follow, especially on the side of Samsung’s software optimization. To find out, we will have to wait for the formalization of the smartphone and the first tests.
