Recall that the recommended price for the GeForce RTX 4090 is $1599.
AMD has officially unveiled the flagship gaming graphics cards Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Both new products are built on the flagship RDNA 3 architecture GPU. The manufacturer calls it the world’s first GPU with a chiplet design.
AMD’s new RDNA 3 GPU includes 58 billion transistors and is 165% more dense than the previous generation. The main crystal in the center of the chiplet is made according to the 5-nm process technology and has an area of 300 mm2. It is called GCD (Graphics Compute Die) and includes GPU computing units with other components.
Next to the main crystal are six small crystals along with fast Infinity Cashe memory. They are called MCD (Memory Cashe Die), are made according to the 6-nm process technology, and also have an area of 37 mm7 each. The bus bandwidth between GCD and MCD is 5.3TB/s.
As part of the presentation, it was announced that the peak theoretical performance of the new chips reaches 61 Tflops in single-precision floating point operations (FP32), which is 2.7 times more than the previous generation chips (23 Tflops). AMD managed to optimize the architecture of computing units for games, “significantly” increasing the performance of new solutions.
The manufacturer claims that the new flagship Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card is 1.5-1.7 times faster than the Radeon RX 6950 XT in the game. When ray tracing technology is activated, performance increases by 1.5-1.6 times. It should be noted that AMD positions its video card as an affordable (more on this below) solution for games using 4K with high FPS. The FSR technology will help to achieve the latter.
The main parameters of the older Radeon RX 7900 XTX:
96 Compute Units (CU) with RDNA 3 architecture; 12288 stream processors; 2.3 GHz – clock frequency of the chip; 96 MB Infinity Cache; 24 GB GDDR6 video memory; support for DisplayPort 2.1 and AV1 hardware encoding; power consumption level – 355 watts.
The main parameters of the “pre-top” Radeon RX 7900 XT:
84 computing units with RDNA 3 architecture; 10752 stream processors; 2.0 GHz – clock frequency of the chip; 80 MB high-speed memory Infinity Cache; 20 GB GDDR6 video memory; support for DisplayPort 2.1 and AV1 hardware encoding; power consumption level – 300 W.
The new graphics cards from AMD in their reference version are equipped with a triple-fan cooling system that occupies 2.5 expansion slots in height. To provide additional power, new items are equipped with a pair of 8-pin connectors. Also, as part of the presentation, it was stated that users do not have to change power supplies to install new devices.
And now the most important thing – prices and release dates. The recommended cost of the older Radeon RX 7900 XTX will be $999, for the sub-flagship Radeon RX 7900 XT they will ask for $899.
