As you may know, Netflix already has a slightly cheaper subscription package available in several regions, thanks to the support of advertisements, which I personally hate, and is one of the main reasons I pay for my multimedia content streaming services. .
But… Well implemented, the thing could have been interesting! Serving as a good entry point into the world of Netflix.
However, it seems that the subscription package with ads is expensive, boring, unpredictable, and you don’t even have access to all the platform’s content. In other words, this new Netflix package (not yet available in Portugal) is almost like a sign saying “Go back to piracy!”.
Netflix with ads is a box of (bad) surprises
So, do you like to play the lottery? Or going to the Casino? It’s just that trying to watch a movie or a series on Netflix, with this subscription, falls a little bit into this kind of thing, since it’s impossible to know how many ads you will see before or during, what you really want to see on the screen in front of you.
The only thing that Netflix says is “For every hour of viewing, users will take, on average, with 4 or 5 minutes of commercials”. Which apparently, according to the reports of users, is more or less correct. The problem is really the timing in which these ads appear. Because… It’s completely random! Either the timing, the type, or even the duration of the ad.
Here it is worth saying that these ads cannot be ignored like on YouTube, you really have to watch them from start to finish.
As if the ad nightmares weren’t enough, the truth is that this subscription doesn’t give you access to the entire Netflix library, nor does it allow you to download content to your mobile device. To give you an idea, in the United States, half of the top 10 movies of the moment are unavailable for viewing.
In other words, Netflix with ads is exactly what the name implies, but it is also a much more limited experience both in content and in quality (720p), annoying, and actually expensive for what it offers (~7€) . Honestly, I hope this package never arrives in Portugal, to avoid having to write another article like this.
