According to the site “TheLeak”, whose name already sounds like a program, it seems that the rumored PS5 Slim may be arriving in the third quarter of 2023although there is obviously no official confirmation of the new model despite several potential leaks taking it into consideration.
In fact, one general design overhaul of consoles is a classic practice in the gaming industry and PS5, in particular, looks just like a device that could badly need a redesign, considering its rather peculiar and decidedly bulky appearance.
This new model of PS5 should therefore arrive in the third quarter of 2023 as reported by the site in question, based on sources not better identified but apparently internal to Sony. Although the new model is probably not officially identified as “PS5 Slim”, it would still be a console smaller and lighter than the current one.
Through the implementation of a smaller SoC, capable of absorbing less power to operate, this would result in a series of cascading changes that would lead to less space and volume requirements for the cooling down of the system. While performance is expected to be the same, therefore, this design overhaul would lead to a smaller PS5, reportedly.
We’ve been talking for a while about the possibility of a new PS5 Slim or even a mid-gen model with greater computing power, but there are no confirmations on either. The idea that a redesign of the console can only come in terms of shape and size is quite plausible, also given the changes to the production processes of the chips. This would also be in line with what reporter / insider Tom Henderson reported earlier when he talked about a new model with a removable disc player expected in 2023.
In fact, Henderson has taken up this new rumor and linked it to what he had previously reported himself, noting how the information seems to match, but of course it is only rumors for the moment.
