A number of insiders fear that the deal Activision Blizzard with Microsoft may break. Increasing pressure and scrutiny from the authorities has reportedly led to “behind-the-scenes” disagreements. More specifically, Microsoft refused to provide official guarantees that Call of Duty will continue to go to PlayStation despite public statements Phil Spencer that the series will remain on the platform Sony. However, the company may still offer behavioral remedies during a full-scale investigation.
Some analysts argue that the greater attractiveness of the deal depends precisely on the possible exclusivity of Call of Duty for Xbox. In the end it all comes down to concessions. But if Microsoft leaves the franchise on the PlayStation, then it will have to think carefully about the need for such a deal.
Activision Blizzard in an official statement expressed confidence that the deal will go through. Otherwise, the company will receive $3 billion in compensation from Microsoft. Microsoft itself also still expects the transaction to close as scheduled by the end of June 2023.
