The family of Nvidia Ampere computing accelerators has been replenished with a separate line of products for the Chinese market – A800. The recent US export restrictions, which do not allow high-performance GPUs to be delivered to the Celestial Empire, prompted the release of the “greens”. Nvidia A800 accelerators are slower than their predecessors, but do not fall under these restrictions.
In terms of specifications, the Nvidia A800 line is close to the A100 series released in 2020. The only difference was the lower bandwidth of the NVLink interface: 400 GB / s versus 600 GB / s for its predecessors. The main characteristics of the new computing accelerators are given below.
“The Nvidia A800 GPU, which began production in the third quarter, is another alternative to the Nvidia A100 GPU for customers in China,” an Nvidia spokesperson told Reuters. He also stressed that the novelties fully comply with the requirements of the US government.
