The release of the action-adventure Death Stranding is now almost exactly three years ago. The game from the hands of Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, which was eagerly awaited by many fans at the time, caused quite a stir. However, the great euphoria evaporated relatively quickly and it was almost forgotten over the past few months. But now there is another sign of life that should make it clear once again how successful the game actually is.
Death Stranding reaches a milestone
The responsible development studio Kojima Productions spoke on the occasion of the third anniversary via Twitter and announced a success story. According to the team, Death Stranding (buy now €13.99) now has more than ten million players worldwide. Incidentally, this number is to be understood across platforms and is not limited to the original PS4 version of the action-adventure. In a separate tweet Hideo Kojima was personally overwhelmed by the great success of “his” game and celebrated the milestone together with his numerous followers and fans.
“As of November 8th, 2022, Death Stranding has connected more than ten million Porters worldwide across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. Thank you everyone for your support!”

success with delay
Shortly after the launch, it didn’t look like Death Stranding would be the big hit for the PS4. While Hideo Kojima’s game set a record in Japan, it underperformed Days Gone and other exclusives in the UK, for example. In the summer of 2021, it reached the mark of five million copies sold, and its inclusion in the PC Game Pass should also have caused another big surge in players.
