The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max arrived with different features (and specs) than the non-Pro models.
Among these is satellite communication, which will only be available in the US and Canada in November, despite Apple going to make an investment of 450 million dollars.
Apple invests $450 million to advance satellite communications
Satellite communications on iPhone 14 Pro will only be available in the US and Canada, for now [email protected]
In September, when it launched the new generation iPhone 14 that includes two Pro models, Apple announced that these two terminals supported satellite communications, but that the feature would only be available in the last quarter of the year.
And here’s Apple delivering on its promise. The satellite communications feature will be available until the end of November. But only in two countries around the world: United States of America and Canada.
This is despite the company going to make an investment of 450 million dollars in satellite infrastructure.
According to a statement issued by Cupertino, a large chunk of the investment goes to Globalstar, a global satellite service based in Louisiana, USA. Apple’s investment provides critical improvements to Globalstar’s network of satellites and ground stations, ensuring iPhone 14 users can connect to emergency services when off-grid. At Globalstar, more than 300 employees support the new service.”
Apple highlights new feature could save lives
In the same statement, Apple highlights the importance of the new satellite communications feature of its Pro smartphones. According to the company, this is a perfect example of how “ingenuity and technology can save lives”.
It is recalled that at the time of the presentation of the new iPhone 14, Apple gave special emphasis to this feature that allows users to contact emergency services, via SMS, if necessary in an area without network coverage.
Unfortunately, Apple did not provide information on when and in which more countries this feature will be available in a future phase.
