After finishing the narrative prologue of God of War Ragnarok, during which your freedom of action is limited, you will gain the opportunity to purchase, unlock and develop weapons, armor, skills and pieces of various equipment – in that regard, here is you the list of all the weapons of Kratos in God of War Ragnarok.
From the very first hours of the game the number of objects and skills that can be obtained is very large, but it goes without saying that some of them are more useful than others. Here is a list of the best equipment and skills to unlock at the beginning of the adventure in God of War Ragnarok – as soon as possible we will replace all the terms in English with the relative translations.
Better skills to unlock at the start of the game
Kratos and Atreus’ abilities can be unlocked using experience points earned from fighting and completing side missions. Sometimes, however, these skills will also have prerequisites in terms that you will need to meet before you can unlock them.
Glacial Rake (Leviathan Ax)
With this powerful ability, activated by holding R1, Kratos will drag the ax along the ground and then launch an icy shockwave in front of him. This is a quick and easy attack to perform, but one that allows you to deal a good amount of damage to multiple enemies along the way and can also inflict frozen status.
Hyperion Grapple (Lame del Caos)
After obtaining the Blades of Chaos this is the first skill to unlock in the related branch. Holding R1 while aiming Kratos will lock onto an enemy and drag himself towards him, stunning them and dealing damage. This skill is also particularly useful for quickly getting out of dangerous situations.
Everlasting Ice / Immolation (Leviathan Ax / Blades of Chaos)
These two skills require their weapon to be upgraded to level 2 before they can be unlocked. In both cases, these are passive skills that allow you to charge the power of your attacks through the concatenation of an increasing number of hits over time. The weapon’s charge will increase the damage and status effects dealt by the weapon more and more, but will be reset as soon as you take damage.
Watchful Protector (Atreus)
After unlocking this ability Atreus will be able to distract the enemies that attack you as soon as he sees you in trouble, in order to give you a few seconds to take a breath and regain your energy and position.
Better defensive equipment
The pieces of equipment for Kratos can be obtained in various ways during the adventure, but mainly through the purchase in the shops of the dwarves. Here are the items you should get first.
After visiting Sindri’s House for the first time, Brok will offer to give you a new shield: at this point you can choose between two different options. The Dauntless Shield, similar to that of the previous chapter of the series, allows you to parry enemy attacks if used with the right timing. The new Stone Wall shield, on the other hand, is able to absorb damage from attacks – with the exception of unstoppable attacks marked in red. To start, we recommend that you choose the latter, as in many cases you may struggle to execute correctly parries due to the unpredictable patterns of the enemies.
After choosing the shield, Brok will also allow you to buy a set of armor: there are different types, with offensive or defensive characteristics. To begin with, we recommend that you choose the set called Fortified Husk, which will improve your ability to block and parry enemy shots, thereby increasing your chance of surviving clashes.
Nidavellir’s Finest Armor
In case you often find yourself in trouble during the fights, we advise you to focus on this armor, which can greatly increase your health. To get it you will have to complete the secondary mission In the Service of Asgard, available in the kingdom of Svartalfheim, which will reward you with the resources necessary to craft the set in question.
Best weapon equipment
Furious Maul (Leviathan Ax)
It is one of the first Leviathan ax knobs you will find in the game, but it is also one of the best for several hours if properly upgraded.
Cursed Empress Handles (Lame del Caos)
This item can be recovered by defeating the mini boss called The Hateful at the area known as the Bay of Bounty, west of Sindri’s shop. Equipping him will give you a general improvement to Kratos’ various stats, as well as a chance to provide a temporary boost to Strength and Runic Attack stats for each hit.
Round of Aggravation (Scudo)
This item can be obtained as a reward after completing the side quest called Weight of Chains. After being equipped it grants Kratos a bonus to Sparta’s Fury accumulated after a successful parry and a great boost to Defense, Vitality and Luck stats.
Speaking of weapons, here’s how to upgrade the Leviathan Ax in God of War Ragnarok and how to upgrade Kratos’ Blades of Chaos in God of War Ragnarok.
