During the MediaTek Executive Summit event, the manufacturer revealed that its first VR processor will be the heart of the upcoming Sony PlayStation VR2 headset.
Although not an unexpected revelation, this will be the first time that MediaTek has embraced the Virtual Reality universe with a component of its own.
Expected Specs on Sony PlayStation VR2
It was during the MediaTek Executive Summit that the processor maker announced that its processor, specially developed for Virtual Reality, will power Sony’s upcoming PlayStation VR2 headset.
And even though it is MediaTek’s first adventure in the Virtual Reality universe, the news was not unexpected for the public most attentive to this high-tech market. Earlier, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had already advanced that the new device could be powered by a MediaTek processor. Thus, this news confirms only what was already expected.
For its part, Sony’s headset is also already public knowledge, as Sony has already revealed its technical specifications, in addition to sparing no effort to spread it on social networks.
So we already know that the model includes OLED screens with a resolution of 2040×2000 pixels in each eye and a refresh rate of 120 Hz🇧🇷 The device’s lenses will also be adjustable.
According to Sony, the model will provide a field of vision about 110 degrees and will be equipped with four cameras for tracking and an IR camera for eye tracking.
Furthermore, it will provide three-dimensional audio with vibration in the headphones, in addition to being equipped with a USB Type-C.
Sony PlayStation VR2 Availability and Pricing
Although it will only hit store shelves on February 22, 2023, starting next week, more specifically on November 15, it will be possible to reserve PlayStation VR2.
As for pricing, the Sony headset will be priced in Europe from 599,99 euros which includes the device, Sense drivers and a pair of headphones. This cost for 649,99 euros if users opt for the package that also includes the Horizon Call of the Mountain game.
