On Sunday, November 13, the match of the 13th round of the Ukrainian Premier League will take place in Minay, in which Vorskla Poltava and Dnipro-1 will play. The starting whistle will sound at 13:00 Kyiv time.
Poltava under the leadership of Viktor Skrypnyk has not yet lived up to the expectations of the fans. Not only did Vorskla fail in the Conference League qualifiers, losing out to the Swedish AIK in a two-legged confrontation, but also the results in the championship, to put it mildly, are not impressive. For 12 matches played, the club from Poltava scored only 14 points and takes 9th place in the standings of the UPL championship.
This week, the unbeaten streak of Skrypnyk’s wards was interrupted. In Lviv, Vorskla conceded minimally to Kryvbas (0:1), although it was the favorite on bookmakers’ quotes. Perhaps the failures are related to the difficult financial situation in the club. The leadership of the players and the coaching staff of Poltava had debts even before the full-scale war, and now, it seems, the situation has only worsened.
The team of Oleksandr Kucher quite unexpectedly continues to hold the lead in the standings of the UPL championship. Over 11 games played, the Dnipro team have scored 28 points out of 33 possible and are 5 points ahead of the nearest pursuer, Shakhtar Donetsk, although the Pitmen still have a game in hand. And this despite the fact that this season Dnipro-1 is playing on two fronts for the first time.
In the Conference League, Kucher’s wards took second place in the group stage, thanks to which they reached the 1/16 finals of the tournament. The Dnipro team could jump straight into the 1/8 finals if they won against AZ in Alkmaar in the final round. In that match, the Ukrainian club looked very good, but still lost with a score of 1:2. And in the last round of the national championship, the sports clubs won a confident victory over Kolos – 3:1.
Two attacking players will not be able to play for Vorskla at once due to disqualification – the Brazilian Marlison and the Albanian Taulant Seferi. Midfielder Ruslan Babenko will miss the match at Dnipro-1 due to a bust of yellow cards.
Defenders Valery Luchkevich and Emiliano Purita, as well as midfielder Domingo Blanco, are still in the Dnipro hospital.
Dnipro-1 and Vorskla met 9 times in official matches. Dnipro won more than half of the meetings, and Poltava were stronger only once. 3 matches ended in a draw.
