Diablo 4 players will be thrust into an open game world that offers a story that is neither linear nor has to be completed in one go.
In an interview with IGN Game Director Joe Shely and Franchise General Manager Rod Fergusson talked about the open world of Diablo 4. So players shouldn’t expect anything like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
“One of the worries you have when you write ‘open world’ on a big neon sign and that sign lights up is that people have something like the idea of Breath of the Wild: ‘Oh, it’s completely organic and I can go anywhere and do anything and eventually find out for myself.” That’s not really our story,” Fergusson said.
Players experience a branching story
The plot of “Diablo 4″ allows for non-linearity, but it is a completed story. “We wanted to have a beginning, a middle and an end. We wanted to start in a certain place and end in a certain place,” says the franchise general manager.
[ad1]Diablo 4 has been described as a “more branching story” that gives players the ability to choose the order in which they play through the major parts. In a further run, the game can be mastered accordingly in a different order. There is also plenty of side content that players can delve into.
“That’s the beauty of the open world,” Fergusson continues. “There’s a lot of side quests, there’s a lot of things to do in the world that aren’t on the golden path of the campaign. And there’s the fact that the Golden Path is a branching path where you can decide when you want to take those branches and in what order.”
