The developer has revealed more details about the recently revealed staff as a new weapon for Nakara Bladepoint.
24 Entertainment recently unveiled a new addition to their arsenal of weapons in Nakara Bladepoint, the Staff. Inspired by Shaolin martial arts techniques, players will soon master the deadly yet elegant staff. Released on November 17th, it is the newest melee weapon in the game, following the addition of Dual Blades earlier in the year.
Dubbed the “grandfather of all weapons,” the staff features long range and a dynamic moveset that differs from Naraka’s spear. As in other popular martial arts movies, games and media, players will wield the baton with agility and grace in an almost dance-like manner.
Fans have requested this weapon since the game’s release, and 24 Entertainment can’t wait for them to experience this new style of play. To get the fun and “feel” of the wand just right, the studio had a little help, as executive producer Ray Kwan explains:
“To really bring the weapon to life, we invited a Shaolin monk to our Hangzhou HQ to take our staff mocap shots: we captured a series of real Shaolin staff movements such as sweeps, thrusts, upward swings and more on. Then we set about implementing them in the game. With a little rework, these moves were ready to be used in Naraka! A big factor in why combat in Naraka works so well is the fluidity and functionality of these intricate moves. We adjust them by hand, making sure each movement flows into the next. It took us quite a while to get that continuity with the staff.”
In-game, the Staff will feel familiar to those who prefer the Spear of Naraka, and will be an ideal choice for both experienced players and newcomers alike.
Like the other weapons, it offers the same basic horizontal and vertical attacks, with many unique moves for players to master. If enemies try to flee, you can close the gap with a sudden dash attack, for example.
The staff can also unleash powerful, precisely charged strikes that can then be chained into special moves and a dynamic new stance.
In the future, Naraka fans can look forward to more Lineage-style weapons that adapt existing favorites for an even more varied and exciting gameplay experience.
