After Disney kicked out Johnny Depp, it wasn’t clear for a long time how the Pirates of the Caribbean films would continue. After all, the American was the one who made Jack Sparrow the iconic character that fans have come to appreciate and love so much. But after five successful films it was over for the time being. But there was a little light on the horizon after initially finding writers for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, it was also announced that Margot Robbie would be starring in a new film. At least until now, in an interview, Robbie himself announced that the new Disney movie was canceled.
New Pirates of the Caribbean channeled
Actress Margot Robbie, best known for her performance as Harley Quinn, revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that Disney has canceled plans to direct her in a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. This news is particularly surprising after it was reported in May that two different script versions for the reboot are in the works.
What could Pirates of the Caribbean 6 have looked like?
Margot Robbie has been working closely with Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson on the idea of a possible reboot. Robbie herself spoke about what her version of Pirates of the Caribbean would have looked like:
“We had an idea and developed it for a while, a very long time ago, we wanted to tell a more female-dominant – but not exclusively female-dominant, slightly different story that we thought would have been really cool, but I did appreciate her [Disney] didn’t want to do that.”
While much of the exact plot remains under wraps, the 32-year-old actress also spoke of infusing more “girl power” and “important female key elements” into the world. Of course, she herself would have been the most important element. It’s pretty safe to say that she wouldn’t have played a female version of Jack Sparrow, but her own protagonist with similar traits. In addition, supernatural events would probably have played an important role again, as they did in the predecessors.

The final end for Pirates of the Caribbean?
At this point in time, only two things are really officially confirmed. For one thing, it’s a fact that we’ll never see the Birds of Prey/Pirates of the Caribbean hybrid starring Margot Robbie as described above. Additionally, Depp has made it clear in the past that he wouldn’t work with Disney again for any money in the world. So at the moment we have no choice but to wait and hope that Disney will pull itself together to continue the series.
