News culture Pirates of the Caribbean 6: A version of the film will remain at the dock, but there is still hope

Already 5 years since the last opus of the Pirates of the Caribbean license was released in cinemas. For 14 years, the adventures of Jack Sparrow, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann have accompanied our lives, with quite uneven production from one opus to another. But for several years, a project had been running its course.
Margot Robbie: her Pirates of the Caribbean 6 buried
The story of Pirates of the Caribbean is quite special since it is not about films adapted as attractions in Disneyland parks, but vice versa. Created from scratch by Disney based on the imagination of these cult attractions, the license has had great successes as well as fairly criticized releases. In the center, the iconic Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp and who can no longer be detached from his actor. After a successful full trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean has obviously begun to weary the public from the fourth filmThe fountain of Youth.
Salazar’s Revenge, released in 2017, failed to revive momentum despite grossing $794.9 million. According to most critics, the film ticks all the boxes for a blockbuster movie, but without the “soul” that made the first three films so successful. Whatever, in 2020, Disney launched a new projectin which Johnny Depp, discarded by Disneyleft its place in order to highlight female characters, headed by Margot Robbie (Birds of Prey, Me Tonya). But obviously, this film is no longer relevant, or at least this version of the film in particular. Asked by Vanity Fair, the actress Australian declared that she was no longer involved, and that the project which concerned her shouldn’t see the light of day :
We had an idea that we had been developing for a long time, a few years, with more women in the lead roles – not entirely, but with a bit of a different story and that we thought was really cool, but I guess they didn’t wanted to do it.
Another project still in the cards, could Johnny Depp come back?
The project which was therefore to give a fresh boost to the franchise thanks to a screenplay by Christina Hodson, should therefore not see the light of day, at least not in this form. Because this cancellation announced by Margot Robbie does not necessarily mean that the franchise will remain in the cellar. A long time ago, the producer Jerry Bruckheimer had mentioned a project with two scenarios possible, the one with Margot Robbie being one of them. The other is that of Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Last of Us) et de Ted Elliot, and it is the one that would have had the favors of Disney. However, this other “reboot”, if it has not been officially cancelled, has not been seen for two years.
In other words, the license is not officially dead, but Disney obviously hasn’t found a way to revive the franchise yet in a way that suits him. As for Johnny Depp, he could possibly make his return if Disney wanted it now that the lawsuit which opposed him to Amber Heard is over. In any case, a certain part of the public wishes see the actor again as Jack Sparrowand a petition posted on Change.org has already collected nearly 880,000 signatures.
