Once again the Eastern developers make us dream with a project in Unreal Engine 5 which appears to be nowhere near completion. We are talking about Project LLL, the latest effort by NCSoft.
The company known to the general public for having given birth to Guild Wars and Lineage has in fact announced that it is working on a third person shooter set in a open world and characterized by some mechanics typical of MMO. The long gameplay footage released in conjunction with the reveal allows you to get a very clear idea of what the situations to be faced in the game will be. inside afuturistic settingour protagonist will have to creep into the maze of outposts controlled by a mysterious alien threat.
While not a product with a distinctly stealth soul, it seems that there is a certain freedom of approach to situations, with the possibility of ambushing the enemy and deciding if and when to point out our presence. Once chaos breaks out, everything works in a similar way to what is seen in titles like The Division except for covers, with the player-controlled character having a large arsenal composed of assault rifles, shotguns and other amenities with which to tear apart both the ‘common soldiers’ and the warriors wearing large armor similar to the Fallout power armor.
Even with some frame rate uncertainty, the gameplay explodes at the end of what appears to be a dungeon: once in the open, our protagonist joins other players in a sort of small-scale trench warfare, which involves a large number of elements and makes its effect from a scenic point of view. In this context we also see the active skills of the soldier in action, who in addition to firing rifles have some aces up his sleeve, such as the device that marks targets on sight and then bombards them with a barrage of micromissili. A little further on we see an ally summon a small tornado which lifts shielded enemies into the air, so that the whole team can concentrate fire on them and take them out.
To top it off is the clash with a huge me, probably a world boss. While everyone is relentless on the gargantuan robot, the protagonist waits for it to enter a phase of vulnerability to jump on it and tamper with its systems: at this point he throws the pilot into the air and takes his place, facing the rest of the mission inside the ‘exoskeleton with first person view. It will be clarified how much of these situations is scripted, but the hope is that the developers are trying to implement a large number of different situations that can intersperse the more classic shooting phases, such as the boss fight with the peculiar creature made of arms which can be seen at the end of the video.
But when can we get our hands on all this? Unfortunately, the answer will not make you happy, since Project LLL will not arrive before 2024 and the reference platforms are not known, among which there will undoubtedly be the PC. In the meantime, you can while away the wait by reading our preview of The First Descendant, a very similar title in setting but with a completely different setting and arriving in a few months on PC and console.
