Twitter and WhatsApp are two quite different platforms, but which will soon share a feature that will unequivocally benefit users. At issue is end-to-end encryption technology in any message sent.
This appears to be the latest project from the Twitter team now under the command of millionaire Elon Musk. Apparently, the encryption of private messages on this social network could be its next big thing.
End-to-End Encryption of Twitter Private Messages in Development
The clue for this novelty was left by programmer Jane Manchun Wong. This found several lines of code in the Twitter application for Android that suggest the development of this feature.
References like “encryption keys” or “conversation keys” were the warning signs Wong found in the Twitter app. In its description we can even read: “If it matches the number on the recipient’s phone, end-to-end encryption is guaranteed”.
These are clear signs that end-to-end encryption is something in the works at Twitter. A feature that will guarantee the privacy of all direct messages exchanged between users of this social network.
As with WhatsApp or Signal, this means that only those involved in a conversation will be able to know its content. Not even those responsible for Twitter will be able to correctly read the messages exchanged on the platform.
Elon Musk almost confirms this news
Faced with these discoveries, Jane Manchun Wong decided to share them on Twitter and ended up getting a response from Elon Musk himself. The now owner of the social network responded with the “wink an eye” emoji.
This response is widely interpreted as confirmation that this feature is indeed coming to Twitter. Something that makes perfect sense after Musk praised Signal for offering this option.
I remind you that this is not an unprecedented project within Twitter. In 2018, the social network began to develop this feature, calling it “secret conversations”.
Unfortunately, those responsible for Twitter abandoned this feature without having explained the reasons. Now, under the leadership of Elon Musk, everything indicates that the project has been revived and that it will finally be a reality for all users.
