Testing of a new mechanic has begun – a flamethrower in the World of Tanks. The developers sent the first car with this type of weapon for testing. So far, the plans are to test a number of hypotheses and evaluate the possible aspects of dealing fire damage.
The German tank destroyer Kanonenjagdpanzer was taken as a test model, since after strengthening the armor in the frontal projection, it will be closest to the historical prototype of the assault equipment designed to take pillboxes and bunkers.
Estimated performance characteristics of the first flamethrower tank:
These are far from final parameters, and the model is considered as a model for testing mechanics.
Gameplay features of flamethrower vehicles in World of Tanks
First of all, from the main characteristics it is worth paying attention to:
Shooting range. The technique is intended for playing exclusively at close range up to 150 meters. The presence of a certain drum with charges of flamethrower shots. A debuff is imposed on the enemy – a stun (as if hit by self-propelled guns). The damage depends on the enemy’s armor (i.e. the same as with artillery): the thicker the armor, the less damage will be dealt.
Implementation of flamethrower tanks in the game (gameplay)
It is assumed that a new class of equipment on the battlefield will act as support, but unlike artillery, it will be close combat. It is possible that in certain situations, a flamethrower tank will be able to prove itself as a “damager”, as is sometimes the case with the same self-propelled guns.
The flamethrower blast incapacitates crew members based on the current stun mechanic, so it lasts longer than the developers would like, so it’s likely that the duration of the debuff will be reduced.
The announcement also told what they plan in general change the stun mechanic:
want to move away from calculating the stun time depending on the damage done to the original time (fixed value) to individual factors for each technique; The effect of the stun will no longer depend on the amount of damage dealt, allowing it to become more discrete; it is planned to introduce more options for upgrading vehicles in order to increase the protection of the crew and modules from fire (perhaps they will add effects to existing equipment / field upgrades or introduce something new).
Also at this stage, the Supertest will be reviewed consumable effects:
a manual fire extinguisher (normal) will be activated automatically; small repair kits and first aid kits will receive the same active effect as large ones (i.e. complete repair of modules and return to service of all crew members); Improved equipment will differ from ordinary equipment only in the presence of a passive effect and a faster reload.
If the testing is successful, then we will see such vehicles in the game as early as 2023, after the release of Chinese jet-accelerated heavy tanks. At the moment, all this has been announced by Lesta Games for the WOT RU region.
