In Russia, the demand for used, and then professionally restored smartphones is actively growing, Izvestia reports with reference to representatives of retail chains, mobile operators and trading platforms.
In September, MegaFon sold 63% more refurbished smartphones than in September, and in the first two weeks of November, 40% more than in the same period in October. In “Yandex.Market” for the III quarter they were sold twice as much as for the II quarter. In July, sales of refurbished smartphones started in M.Video-Eldorado stores: now you can buy devices from Apple and Samsung there. These smartphones are sourced from partners through the chain’s own marketplace, and sales have quadrupled in six months.
The Russian market for used devices has not been particularly dynamic in recent years: last year, 2 million units were sold with a total market of 32.5 million devices, says Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group. Everything has changed this year: the consumer has turned to the used device market, spurred on by rising prices and fears that new smartphones will be in short supply – often refurbished gadgets, for example, are bought by children. According to the results of the current year, the market for used smartphones can double and reach 4 million units, the expert is sure – while 26.5 million units will be sold new devices.
