Launched earlier this year, the Smart #1 electric SUV should soon be available in a new, larger and slightly more upscale version. Called Smart #3, this future electric coupé SUV should see the light of day in 2023.
We’ve been hearing about the Smart #1 for over a year, first unveiled as a concept at the Munich trade fair in 2021. But it was not until last April that the final version was officially presented, marking a real turning point for the brand saved by Geely in 2019 when it was experiencing significant difficulties. First SUV from the manufacturer, which until then only produced city cars, namely the Fortwo and Forfour, this #1 should not remain alone for long in the range.
A coupe SUV
Indeed, the Chinese site It Home managed to obtain some valuable information on the arrival of a future model to support the Smart #1. The latter would then not take the name of #2 but of #3. And far from just giving us some information, he also reveals a series of pictures showing us this future arrival from every angle.
And unsurprisingly, this one will remain very close to the model that we already know, then adopting a similar front face, with its rounded optics linked together by a black band. Just below, we also find the very open grille, although this seems to benefit from a slightly different pencil stroke.
In profile, we note that the silhouette is more dynamic, thanks to the arrival of a new, more receding roof than on the Smart #1. A very trendy design, now adopted by many other models, such as the new Skoda Enyaq Coupé RS iV or the Tesla Model Y, among others.
If the rear lights are almost identical, the most observant will notice that the shield differs slightly. According to our source, the future Smart #3 would then display a length of 4.40 meters i.e. 13 centimeters longer than its little brother already on the market. The width would be 1.84 for 1.56 meters high. Several colors will be offered in the catalog, including the red of the images visible in our article, while various roof/body combinations will also be available.
Several engines on the program
For the moment, we don’t yet know anything about the driving position of this future electric SUV, but there is no doubt that it should inherit the presentation that we already know on the Smart #1. As a reminder, it is then equipped with a 9.2-inch digital handset paired with a 12.8-inch touchscreen. The latter is not compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the brand has decided not to sign a partnership with the two companies.
We should therefore expect the same for the Smart #3. The latter will have a wheelbase of 2.79 meters, against 2.75 meters for its little brother. The trunk volume should logically be up slightly, whileit oscillates between 270 and 411 liters for the #1.
The electric coupe SUV will come in two versions, the first being equipped with a single motor and claiming an output of 200 kW, or around 271 horsepower. It is then almost identical to the technical sheet of the Smart #1, which claims 268 horsepower and 343 Nm of torque. A second variant, probably badged Brabus would also be on the programcombining a 115 kW front engine and a second installed at the rear developing 200 kW, for a total of 315 kW, or approximately 428 horsepower.
As a reminder, the Brabus Smart #1 claims 422 horsepower for a torque of 543 Nm. Without any real rival for the moment due to its small size, this future arrival in the range should see the light of day in the course of the year. year 2023. It should then based on Geely’s SEA platformwhich also equips the new Zeekr 009, unlike the SPA platform found on the Polestar 3.
