FIFA has officially announced that during the 2022 World Cup it will be impossible to purchase alcoholic beverages, including beer, in stadiums:
“Following discussions between the authorities of the host country (Qatar) and FIFA, it was decided to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages at the Fan Fest, other places for fans and licensed establishments, removing beer outlets from the grounds of the 2022 World Cup stadiums in Qatar.
This will not affect the sale of non-alcoholic Bud Zero beer, which will continue to be available in all World Cup stadiums in Qatar.
The Qatari authorities will continue to ensure that stadiums and surrounding areas guarantee a respectful and enjoyable experience for all fans. The tournament organizers are grateful to AB InBev for their understanding and continued support of our joint commitment to serve everyone during the 2022 World Cup.”
The ban jeopardizes FIFA’s multi-million dollar contract with beer maker Budweiser.
