Four new product categories coming to Sonos.
Could Sonos’ highly anticipated wireless headphones finally arrive?
Those are pretty much the expectations after CEO Patrick Spence announced no less than four new product categories during the discussion of the quarterly results. One of them would even be for the booking year 2023. However, no details have yet been given about which categories are involved.
Rumors about such wireless headphones have been buzzing around Sonos for a while. The first messages already surfaced in 2019 and have not really left since then. Everything seemed to materialize two years ago, after a patent application with some design options and features leaked.
In addition, there are two fairly recent acquisitions that make the rumor mill turn even faster. There is the Dutch Mayht, where they work on minimizing speakers without sacrificing sound quality. And there was the incorporation of T2 Software, specialized in Bluetooth LE audio (for better audio via Bluetooth, with optimal consumption).
Both specializations can possibly also be applied to the new speaker that Sonos would release in the foreseeable future. But codename Optimo 2, as it is still known today, already fits within an existing product group and is therefore not part of the mysterious announcement.
So for now it remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, we’re going to be hearing a lot from Sonos!
