Today is a very important day for PlayStation 5which celebrates two years since its official launch, an event that we at Everyeye.it have decided to celebrate by retracing the most important stages of its short history.
Launch, technical features and lineup
Arrived on the international market on November 19th exactly two years ago, PlayStation 5 immediately showed itself as the emblem of a both technical and conceptual transformation for Sony, being launched in a Standard and Digital version, i.e. without a reader: this is a historic first for Sony. The Japanese company therefore decides to offer players a fast and high-performance, but also innovative device, thanks to theHigh performance 825GB SSD and the features of the supplied DualSense, equipped with an integrated microphone and feedback aptico.
But let’s move on to the console lineup. For this new generation, Sony has decided to take back some of its historic IPs and relaunch them exclusivelyas in the case of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls Remake and The Last Of Us Part I. However, there was also room for ambitious cross-gen titles, including the more recent God Of War: Ragnarok, which received an excellent response from critics and audiences.
The semiconductor crisis
The launch of PS5, as many of you know, unfortunately took place against the backdrop of the epidemic caused by COVID-19, which led to significant economic and social repercussions, up to hitting the technology industry with the semiconductor crisis. The scarcity of available materials has led companies like Microsoft, and Sony itself, to place an extremely small number of devices on the marketa situation exploited to the fullest by scalpers and ill-intentioned people, who didn’t wait a minute longer to grab as many stocks as possible and resell them at mind-boggling prices.
In short, the situation that has arisen in the last two years has been unique in its kind. If on the one hand Sony has managed to sell almost all the consoles placed on the market, on the other hand PlayStation 5 has acquired the status of a luxury item in the hands of a fewpace of those who have tried several times to get the better of bots and scalpers.
The latest developments
Thankfully, over time, the situation seems to have improved slightly. The increase in stock within distribution chains has led touts to lose interest in PlayStation 5. In fact, Netacea’s estimates speak of a 2% drop compared to last time, making the Sony home console slip out of the top 3 of the most desired devices.
Obviously, there is still a long way to go before being able to definitively declare this unusual interlude in the technological field closed. What is certain, however, is that PlayStation 5 has been able to get a lot of talk about itself since its launch and probably will continue to do so.
