Nvidia has finally issued a statement regarding problems with the (12 + 4)-pin 12VHPWR power connector on the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card. The first case of burnout of this connector was recorded almost a month ago, and today Nvidia is aware of about fifty such incidents. By the way, the total number of GeForce RTX 4090 video cards sold has already exceeded 130 thousand pieces.
Through its own investigation, Nvidia concluded that one of the main causes of the above issue is user error. As the chipmaker emphasized, the 12VHPWR connector must be fully inserted into the video card. To avoid problems, Nvidia recommends that you first connect the adapter or cable to the video card, making sure that it makes good contact, and then install the 3D accelerator on the motherboard.
As for the unfortunate owners of the GeForce RTX 4090, who are still “lucky enough” to melt the additional power connector, they can exchange the video card under warranty. Nvidia, together with AIB partners, promises to accelerate this process in every possible way.
