While Payday 2 continues to record more than satisfactory numbers, the Overkill Software guys continue to develop Payday 3 under the aegis of Starbreeze Studios and surrounded by a silence that shows no sign of breaking.
Announced way back in 2016, development of Payday 3 began in 2016 at Overkill Software, but struggled to mesh due to the Starbreeze’s financial difficulties and for the prolonged absence of a publisher to secure the necessary funds. Everything started going right again starting in March 2021, when Swedish authors signed an agreement with Koch Media, now known as Plaion, for distribution under the Prime Matter label.
Although the game has never shown itself (if we exclude a timid screenshot dated 2020), during the last meeting with shareholders, Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjogren proceeded to reassure investors and players by explaining to them that Payday 3 development is progressing smoothly is that the launch window is still set at 2023. The statement: “The development of Payday 3 is proceeding according to plan, and together with our co-publishing partner, Plainon (who has changed its name from the former Koch Media Group), we are working hard to ensure a happened in 2023. Several people are waiting for more information on the exact launch date and to see the contents of the game, and we will provide updates as the launch approaches”.
During the same meeting, the CEO also highlighted the continued success of Payday 2, which still provides revenue for the company, and theplanned increase in staff from 152 to 156 employeeswhich was necessary in view of the final stages of development of Payday 3.
