“As fate would have it, in my wanderings through libraries, bookshops and flea markets across the country, I had collected a reasonable number of musical manuscripts containing old pieces from the repertoire of the Portuguese zither, many by an unknown author and dating back to the last decades of the 20th century. eighteenth to the beginning of the twentieth century.
The music we find there is a mixture of genres: Fado, Fofa, Fandango, Sarambeque, Waltz, Mazurca, Maxixe or Chula.
The Portuguese Cítara has been awakening a growing interest from audiences attentive to the enjoyment of musical genres other than the more traditional use of this instrument and its presentation in the context of classical and popular music festivals is increasingly frequent. To this end, we have been contributing to the creation of a new extended solo repertoire, consisting of original compositions and transcriptions of pieces of music from the past.”
For this program, Pedro Caldeira Cabral presents the characteristic expressive resources of the Portuguese Cítara in a journey through the history of this unique instrument.
