The Orion capsule, which is currently orbiting the Earth, is equipped with an iPad capable of displaying messages sent from Earth. Everyone can try their luck: here’s how to participate.
The Artemis I mission is the first leg of Man’s journey to Mars via the Moon. For the moment, the approach consists in testing the functioning of the Orion capsule, which will welcome astronauts in the coming years. The current mission is associated with various scientific experiments, but also, it must be said, with commercial operations.
Among them are Callisto, a technological demonstration on board the capsule. Despite a happy coincidence, this has nothing to do with The Callisto Protocol game which will be released on multiple media on December 2nd. We will explain everything to you !
Send your messages into space with Callisto
Callisto is a collaboration between the American defense and security company Lockheed Martin, the telecommunications company Cisco and the online retail giant Amazon. The association of these three firms gave birth to this project aims to allow anyone to “communicate” with Orion thanks to a combination of high-performance telecommunications technologies.
In practice, this means displaying messages sent from Earth on an iPad “for the whole world to see”. The Alexa voice assistant is also there: it is able to read messages aloud.
The purpose of this demonstration is to prove the progress made in communication between Earth and space. “By enabling video collaboration in deep space, astronauts on long missions to the Moon and beyond could have on-demand video chats with loved ones, and be able to solve problems with collaboration tools. modern with the crew and command center 240,000 miles away,” the project page explains. There’s nothing like putting the public to work to demonstrate the value of such technology.
Anyone can try their luck by sending a message aboard the Orion capsule : to do this, you have to go to the official Callisto page which is on the Lockheed Martin website. At the bottom of the page is a simple form to fill out. “Using the form below, you can submit a message to the tech demo as it flies through deep space,” the service explains. The message must not exceed 120 characters.
However, it is important to point out that all messages sent will not be retained. Each message submitted is processed by a moderation team. If your message is approved, then you will receive an email informing you of its distribution.. You will then receive a video showing your message being broadcast in space. It’s time to be inventive to hope to reach the stars!
