Google has released an emergency update covering the desktop version of Chrome. In practice, it fixes the eighth serious flaw to be exploited in attacks this year, as reported by the Bleeping Computer website. It’s a really complicated problem. This is because anyone who does not install the fix right away risks data theft and unwanted things being installed on the computer. It has the code name CVE-2022-4135 and was discovered by Clement Lecigne of Google’s Threat Analysis Group on November 22, 2022. So don’t use Chrome anymore until you install the new update!
Heads up! Don’t use Chrome anymore until you do this!
Since users need time to apply the security update to their Chrome installations, Google withheld details about the vulnerability to prevent it from being exploited.
However, the way this flaw is exploited allows criminals to manipulate a number of things. This means that they can not only have access to our personal information but also be able to run code and other things on our own computer.
Chrome users are recommended to upgrade to version 107.0.5304.121/122 for Windows and 107.0.5304.122 for Mac and Linux.
Updating is very simple
Open the browser, click on the three dots in the upper right corner and choose settings. Then on the left click on About Google Chrome. Next, on the right, just update.
How to be more protected
However, when it comes to the browser, there is little security and in fact, in order not to have surprises, there are some extensions that we can use to be more secure.
The most used browser in the world is considered by many people to be the least private. At least when it’s just installed. However, there are ways to ensure more security. Especially when we use some extensions for this purpose. Thus, it becomes very easy to immediately guarantee more security and above all that you are not being followed.
Head to the Chrome Web Store using this link. However, then click on Extensions on the left side and enter the name of the extension you are looking for on the left side. To ensure maximum security, we’re going to need four. They are Cookie Autodelete, uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger and HTTPS Everywhere.
This extension does exactly what the name reveals. It is available to be installed here. That said, you now have full control over your cookies. Those that are not being used and belong to closed tabs are automatically deleted, while those that are in use are kept. But attention. Data is only cleaned automatically when you activate the Auto-Clean function.
This extension does not clean data automatically until you enable “Auto-clean”. This gives you the chance to add sites to the WhiteList.
This extension consists of an extremely efficient blocker. In fact, it is more effective than AdBlocker. In addition, it also allows reading and creating filters from server files. That is, it does more than just block ads. However, it has the particularity of managing the occupied memory very well. So for that reason less resources are needed.
Privacy Badger: A Great Way to Ensure a Safer Chrome on Windows 10
This is perhaps one of the most useful extensions and worth installing right now. So it is available here and has a very interesting particularity. It’s just that instead of taking advantage of a list to know what to block, it automatically discovers tracking systems through behavior.
There are a lot of things that follow us. Comment systems, media players, widgets and much more. Now this extension replaces all this with a kind of button that you have to press to activate that area.
This is an extension that even appeared first in Firefox. In practice, it ensures that we always have a secure connection when we visit any website.
It can be downloaded here.
