In the midst of the 2022 World Cup, underway in Qatar, Brazilians have not forgotten what happened in the Mineirão eight years ago, on July 8, 2014, when Germany scored a 7-1 defeat of the Brazilian national team. . And apparently, not even Volkswagen Brasil let it go.
To bring luck to Brazil on this path towards the long-awaited sixth championship, the company sent seven units of the Gol model 2014 to Germany, as a way of “returning” the goals taken in the Cup that year.
Whether Volkswagen Brasil’s superstition will work, we will only know in the future. But in this first round, it seems to have had an effect. Brazil debuted with a 2-0 victory over Serbia, on Thursday (24), while Germany stumbled to Japan, 2-1, the day before.
The action also served as a way to promote the departure of the automaker’s entry hatch. Gol is in its latest version – the “Last Edition” – and had 650 units reserved half an hour after launch.
For next year, the Gol will be replaced by the Polo Track – also called “New Polo” – as the automaker’s entry-level compact hatch. It will be officially launched in February 2023, for a suggested retail price of R$79,990.
