Developer Yakuza has “many other unannounced” games in development, some of which are not related to the Yakuza franchise.
In a new interview with studio executives Ryu Ga Gotoku for Game Informer, studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama spoke briefly about the developer’s future endeavors.
We have many other unannounced games. Something outside of the Ryu Ga Gotoku universe we’re working on.
Prior to the interview with Game Informer, Ryu Ga Gotoku had unveiled at least three games in the Yakuza series. Like a Dragon: Ishin is a remake of a long-forgotten samurai spin-off, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is an action game with the main character Kiryu, and Like a Dragon 8 is a continuation of the main saga.
Despite Ryu Ga Gotoku’s unprecedented trio of Yakuza games, Yokoyama maintains that brand new adventures are in development. However, for now, it’s clear that Yokoyama and the other heads of the development studio are fully focused on the three upcoming Yakuza-related games and aren’t ready to go into details on other projects.
In terms of upcoming Yakuza releases, Like a Dragon: Ishin will release on February 21, 2023, while Like a Dragon Gaiden will arrive later that year. Finally, Like a Dragon 8 is currently scheduled for 2024.
