The problem of chip scarcity is still heavily affecting the automotive industry. Due to a shortage of chips, the already loss-making automaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has decided to reduce car production in the UK until March, giving priority to the production of more profitable models now, Bloomberg reported citing informed sources.

According to a Bloomberg source who wished to remain anonymous, owned by the Indian corporation Tata Motors Ltd. The British SUV and luxury car maker will scale down production of its Solihull, England-based Range Rover Velar and Jaguar F-Pace models and ramp up production of its top-grossing Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models.
It is possible that JLR will also cut production at the Halewood plant, which makes the more affordable Evoque and Discovery Sport models, though no final decision has yet been made.
Commenting on what is happening in the market, a JLR spokesman told Bloomberg in an email that the company continues to actively manage the operation of manufacturing units, while the industry is experiencing “constant global disruptions in the semiconductor supply chain.” “Demand for our vehicles remains high,” he added.
A JLR spokesperson also said that the company expects to increase shipments in the second half of the fiscal year ending in March, thanks to the conclusion of new agreements for the supply of semiconductors.
