November 26th, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. by Valentin Sattler – With Half-Life: Alyx: Levitation, a new community mod was released yesterday, which expands the VR game with another free campaign. This should contain, among other things, a new storyline with three to four hours of playtime as well as new animations and voicelines.
In April, Levitation, a new community mod for Valve’s VR title Half-Life: Alyx, was announced, which should bring a completely new campaign with four to five hours of game time at launch. It didn’t take long for it to be released: the mod was released yesterday, just over half a year after it was announced. In the end, according to the developers, it was “only” three to four hours of play, but the project is of course still impressive.
New story, eight levels – and free
According to its description in the Steam Workshop, Half-Life: Alyx: Levitation is set right after the game’s main storyline. According to this, a flying building appears in Sector X of City-17, in which two resistance members disappear while exploring. The player – again in the role of Alyx – should now search and save her in Levitation. The campaign will take place in eight levels and will include new voicelines and character animations, among other things.

“Alyx returns to City-17 after meeting the G-MAN and reunites with Russell. During her absence, a mysterious floating building appeared in City-17’s Sector X region. Two key members of the Resistance named Barry and Maya have decided to infiltrate and investigate Sector X – until their signal went dead… Now Alyx must save her friends and possibly the entire Resistance.”
The community mod is definitely exciting for owners of Half-Life: Alyx, because Levitation can be played completely free of charge. All you have to do is subscribe to the mod in the Steam Workshop. Then you can start the game and immerse yourself in the new storyline.

The first reactions from the community are positive: The Twitter user @ritsucaps, for example, praises the apparently very well done maps of the VR title, and there are also many benevolent comments on Steam. In addition, not too many technical problems have surfaced up to now. According to @FMPONE, the leader of the project, only one problem with the AI and a performance drop in the third level are known so far. Patches will soon be available for both bugs. So the developers still take care of the project after the release of the mod.
