Against all odds, the future of The Witcher license will be combined, in part, with the past in CD Projekt’s plans. A month ago, the executives of the Polish company made a big revelation by formalizing the development of a remake of the first game. However, the announcement was accompanied by some gray areas that put a number of days to dissipate: today, if the veil is not entirely lifted, CD Projekt has confirmed an important detail of this project!

One of The Witcher’s mysterious projects finally unveiled!
Thus, to make the license that has contributed so much to its popularity prosper, CD Projekt RED returns to its roots by tackling an extremely modern version of the first The Witchera title that was still released in 2007. This surprise announcement did not happen like a hair on the soup since it was made on the day of the fifteenth anniversary of the game, and it even followed the previous revelations at the beginning of October, grouped under very mysterious names. Beyond learning that this surprise was hidden under the name “Canis Majoris”, CD Projekt revealed to us that this project had been entrusted to the Fool’s Theory teams and that it would be based on the Unreal Engine 5.
Unfortunately, the title is not about to see the light of day since it is only at the beginning of its development. It is also for this reason that CD Projekt could not offer us that much information, generating in this way many questions about the outline of this project. However, as we mentioned in the beginning of this article, these famous gray areas fade over the data collected in the news, even if, shortly after the revelation, we ourselves left go to some thoughts on our expectations of this remake. A month later, CD Projekt spoke again about the “Canis Majoris” project to confirm what we were all hoping for!
An open world in line with The Witcher 3?
Initially, CD Projekt RED announced on its Twitter account that this mysterious “Canis Majoris” project represented “a full-fledged The Witcher game”. Now that we know it’s a remake of The Witcher, we are entitled to wonder if it will be a redesign very faithful to the original video game work or if it will be a version that is more eyeing the side of The Witcher 3, a title that will soon be given a new lease of life thanks to the update PS5 et Xbox Series X|S. Today, the Polish company confirms that this remake will be entirely open-world.
Inevitably, in 2007, it was difficult to afford such a feat and that’s partly why the collaboration between CD Projekt RED and Fool’s Theory wanted to give it a remake. Moreover, this prospect of discovering the original title with open-world sauce will be an opportunity to compensate for a small disappointment of The Witcher 3. In the 2007 adventure, Geralt sets out to explore the surroundings of Vizima, the capital of Temeria, but these are only a small portion of his third installment adventure. Thus, with the remake, players will be able to gallop freely on these lands, now connected to each other and not divided into zones.
