If almost everyone swears by small electric cars, other manufacturers want, on the contrary, only to offer large electric vehicles. And with these changing opinions, some brands like Fiat intend to take advantage of it to regain market share.
Electric car: Fiat is preparing to take it all!
The electric car is a bit of a hit of the moment. Everyone is talking about it and everyone is trying to find out if these vehicles will be able to accompany us towards a greener future – this is not quite the case at the moment. If brands like Tesla, BMW or Audi offer large high-end electric cars and so dear, other manufacturers have instead chosen to go electric with small carswithout skimping on quality.
This is the case of Fiat and its 500 electric, which is regularly part of the Top 10 best-selling electric cars in France and Europe.. However, other manufacturers seem to want to abandon the electric A and B segment, this is particularly the case with Ford, which recently announced the end of one of its legendary models: the Fiesta. With this choice, the American brand wishes to strengthen its position in the market for large electric cars.

With this new orientation, the firm founded by Henri Ford therefore frees up the B-segment market a little. A change of direction that looks likea boon for Fiatwhich will, according to the words of its boss Olivier François, probably continue to focus on the A segment, while embarking on the electric B segment!
Fiat wants to “conquer again” the B segment with electric cars
As we explained above, many manufacturers, such as Ford, seem to want to increasingly position themselves in the SUV and electric sedan segment. In contrast, other brands want to take the opposite view of this trend, focusing on mini-city cars and versatile city cars. Fiat is therefore one of these brands and its boss Olivier François did not hide during his recent interview with Autocar.
The fact that there are no Fiestas or Polos on our route is just fantastic, because that’s really where people are waiting for us. We haven’t done a new Punto since 2013 or something, but if you ask European customers to name their favorite B-segment brands, Fiat is in the top three. We need to conquer the B-segment again, and we need to continue to dominate the A-segment. We know why others are leaving it and I understand that, because it is very difficult.
Although the boss of the Italian brand knows the direction he wants to take his group, he also knows that it will not be a long calm river.. All car manufacturers have known for several years now that the production of an electric car does not cost less than that of a thermal car. Profitability is therefore difficult to achieve, but not impossible. It only remains for us to see if the five new electric models that the brand will launch in the coming years, will be enough to meet the expectations of the boss and therefore indirectly those of consumers who are particularly fond of city cars and mini-city cars.
