In the last few weeks and months we have received a lot of new information about the crafting revamp in WoW: Dragonflight. According to the Blizzard developers, the professions system in the new expansion is on a par with other endgame content such as Mythic Plus dungeons or raids.
The developers have summarized this flood of information in an official blog post. In it you will learn what crafting jobs are all about, what profession specializations are, what quality levels are all about and much more.

Instead of just putting your crafted items on the auction house and hoping someone buys them, you can now place orders through crafting orders. Crafting Orders feature a new way to place an order for almost any recipe in the Dragon Isles, through a menu similar to the Auction House. This new service is almost free and is provided by representatives of the Artisan Consortium, a new trade organization that recently launched its first branch in the Dragon Isles.

For public quests, the player placing the quest must provide the tradable reagents. For guild quests and personal quests, both the quest giver and the artisan can provide the reagents. Certain special reagents may only be available from either party. In particular, soulbound reagents will often require you to provide them yourself when you commission a soulbound item.
You can also further customize the quest and include various optional reagents depending on the recipe, giving you full control over what to craft. For example, many gear recipes allow you to specify secondary stats.
Once you’ve finished customizing the job, you set the commission for the artisan, pay a small hiring fee, and send them off.
Artisans can then view these orders, fill up any missing reagents, craft the item, and collect the commission (minus a small cut for the artisan consortium, of course!). You will then receive the finished item in the mail.
For crafters, this is a great new way to earn gold, hone their skills, and most importantly, support friends and guildmates with crafted items.
Players from TBC may still be able to relate to the word profession specializations. Thanks to profession specializations, artisans can become specialists in their primary crafting or gathering profession if their skill level is high enough.

For example, as a blacksmith you can decide whether you want to specialize in blades, shields or maces.
Gathering and crafting with quality
New to World of Warcraft (buy now) is the idea of a crafting quality, both for crafted items and for many collected reagents. Quality is not to be confused with rarity levels such as Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. These remain unchanged and have no direct impact on the manufacturing quality.
There are five possible quality levels for crafted gear. Many other crafted or gathered items, such as potions and ores, have three tiers of quality.
WoW: The official preview for the big crafting update (4) Source: Blizzard For manufactured equipment, the quality primarily changes the item level. Each quality level increases it by a small amount. For example, a crafted piece of gear can have item level 306/308/310/313/316 at quality levels ////. In all cases, our goal is for quality to have such a big impact that it’s worth the effort to strive for higher quality. At the same time, the effect should not be so great that the lowest quality level does not feel worthwhile.
For crafted items such as quality consumables, quality has a slightly more diverse effect. For most of these, higher quality increases the effect, but in some cases the quality may manifest itself differently, such as increased duration, more charges, etc. We expect lower quality versions of these items to sell for cheaper. This is how we create a niche for those who don’t want to spend a lot of gold to use the full range of crafted items. It will also be cheaper to craft lower quality versions of these items for various reasons.
For quality reagents, the quality value has a strong impact on the manufacturing process. Using higher quality basic reagents in crafting grants bonus skill (more on that later).
Crafting Reagents are a new type of reagent that can be used to enhance aspects of the crafting process, such as your skill or crafting stats. The higher the quality, the greater the impact when crafting.
Not all collected reagents have a quality. The main reagents gathered using the main gathering professions Mining (ore), Skinning (leather, scales, hides), and Herbalism (herbs) have a quality, as do reagents produced by the main professions (e.g. Bolt of Cloth, metal alloys, etc.). However, other reagents such as meat, cloth, fish, and elements that anyone can collect do not have quality.
DETERMINING THE QUALITY – THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS
When crafting an item, you need to keep two things in mind.
The recipe difficulty determines how difficult it is to craft the recipe at a higher quality. The recipe difficulty also changes when you add optional reagents. These can change the difficulty up or down based on their effects and quality, sometimes quite significantly.
Crafting skill is determined by the base skill in a profession (e.g. Tailoring of the Dragon Isles), but can be altered by various factors. These include the quality of the reagents used, crafting reagents, profession equipment with skill bonuses, various bonuses from consumable items and – most importantly – the profession specialization.

When crafting your item, randomness also plays a small role to reflect the natural variability of crafting. Additionally, if you have Inspiration (a new crafting stat), you have a chance to feel inspired and gain a significant amount of bonus skill when crafting. That means you might get a better result than expected, but never worse!
At the end, the final crafting skill is compared to the recipe difficulty. If this skill is higher than the difficulty, you will craft the highest quality item. Otherwise, quality depends on your skill versus difficulty.
Additional crafting values
In addition to your primary crafting skill, there are several secondary crafting stats that can affect the crafting of new Dragon Isles recipes that you can specialize in and focus your gear on. These values are:
Inspiration – You have x% chance to be inspired and craft this recipe with additional skill. Inspiration is for those who like to let their luck decide and want to get a little bit of bonus quality. It also offers the chance, with a bit of luck, to craft items of higher quality than your natural skill and specialization would allow.Ingenuity – You have a x% chance of using fewer tradable reagents such as ore.If you also use the If you want to squeeze every last drop of profit from your crafted items, then this value is for you.Multiple Crafting – You have a x% chance of crafting additional items. You will find many of them as you level up in the different regions of the Dragon Isles. When you reach the capital city of Valdrakken, you will find a large Profession Center there, containing all crafting stations as well as vendors and teachers. The crafting consortium has also called representatives to the city for crafting jobs and even convinced some representatives of the auction house to set up camp here.
