The Oceanic+ application, which turns the Apple Watch Ultra into a dive computer, is now available for download on the App Store.

During the presentation of the Apple Watch Ultra, on September 7, Apple had certainly highlighted its functions dedicated to hiking, running or climbing. But one of the main novelties concerned the possibility of transforming the Apple watch into a real dive computer.
However, if Apple had communicated on these functionalities during the presentation of the connected watch, it was not in fact about native functions, but of possibilities offered thanks to a third-party developer who worked closely with the Cupertino company to develop a dedicated app: Oceanic+. As expected, this application was only to be released after the launch of the watch, around December. It is finally the case with a few days in advance that the Oceanic + application is available on the Apple App Store, as indicated by the firm in a press release:
The Oceanic+ app arrives on Apple Watch Ultra today and transforms Apple’s most rugged watch into a complete, easy-to-use dive computer. Born out of Apple’s collaboration with Huish Outdoors, the Oceanic+ app allows users to wear their regular watch on recreational dives, and reach previously unreachable depths with it — down to 40 meters — as well as the all-new depth gauge and water temperature sensors in Apple Watch Ultra.
In concrete terms, the Oceanic+ application will thus allow divers to access essential information during their trips. In particular, it will indicate the depth of the dive, its duration or the decompression times. A planning function is also available, displaying water temperature, tides or visibility.
Management of decompression stops
Remember that decompression stops are necessary for diving at great depth – beyond 10 meters – and that their duration is all the more important as the diving session has been long. Generally, these levels are calculated automatically by dive computers, the price of which varies between 200 and 1000 euros depending on the model. With Oceanic+, these functions are therefore offered directly on the Apple Watch Ultra, in addition to the classic connected watch functions and the measures offered for more traditional sports activities.

However, it should be noted that Oceanic + is indeed an additional application to download on the Apple Watch Ultra and not an integrated function of office. Importantly, this app is based on a freemium model with a subscription needed to take advantage of the features of decompression tracking, tissue saturation, position planner, and other metrics. The proposed price is 12.49 euros per month or 97.99 euros per year. Nevertheless, the functions of measuring the depth, the duration of a dive and the recording of outings are offered from the free version.
In addition, only the Apple Watch Ultra is compatible with the Oceanic + application, which is therefore not offered on the Apple Watch Series 8 or the Apple Watch SE 2022.
