After Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Roland Garros, the American giant Amazon is considering expanding its catalog further by coming to France. But it won’t be so simple, since Canal+ and Molotov also want to expand!
Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video, the streaming dance is endless!
Streaming platforms have invaded our screens for a few years, so much so that it has even become almost difficult not to succumb to their charm by offering at least a subscription to one of them. It must be admitted that to watch series, films, anime or documentaries, these have now become the norm! But as in almost all sectors, competition is fierce and you must therefore acquire or innovate to stand out and increase your market share.
Between Disney+ and Netflix which are launching subscriptions with advertising, Universal+ which is arriving without warning at SFR, Paramount+ which is coming to the French market in December, Lionsgate+ which will soon close in France or Salto which is looking for a buyer, we can tell you, things are moving a lot in the world of legal streaming!

Precisely, let’s talk a bit about the French video-on-demand service Salto. On November 20, we learned that the TF1 and M6 groups intended to sell their share (66.66%) that they hold in the SVOD platform. And as you can imagine, the suitors were quick to knock on the door! Indeed, we quickly learned that Canal+ and Molotov were strongly interested in this sale. But yesterday, The letter a indicated that a new challenger, and not the least, was “to invite to the negotiating table”.
Amazon moves to the negotiating table with Canal+ and Molotov
First of all, for those who don’t know jumpyou should know that it is a 100% French SVOD platform. The latter was born two years ago following the desire of France Télévisions, TF1 and M6 to offer an offer of videos on demand by subscription bringing together French television creation. And despite a large catalog with programs like: Joséphine, Ange Gardien, France has an incredible talent or even Gossip Girl, the service is struggling to take off. In fact, it’s even worse, since after two years of existence, Salto is far from profitable and its creators seem somewhat embarrassed by this platform which costs money and does not bring in any.
As we explained to you above, the TF1 and M6 groups therefore want to get rid of their shares. And as often when it comes to redemption, Amazon is never far away! You probably know this, but the American giant is always on the lookout for a new investment – they have already obtained the rights to Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Roland Garros – and truth be told, such a commitment would have some consistency to give its baby Prime Video a more substantial catalog. But even if Amazon is the biggest fish sitting at the negotiating table, no one yet knows if the group led by Andy Jassy will win the jackpot (and Joséphine, Ange Gardien).
