Have you set your sights on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra? It may be missing two key features, including Wi-Fi 7 and fast charging.
Samsung is expected to unveil the S23 series in the first week of February 2023. Previously leaked specifications already pointed to a meager upgrade year. For the Galaxy S23 and S23+, the design is expected to be overhauled, but the cameras remain the same as their predecessors. Bigger changes are expected for the S23 Ultra, including a new screen without rounded edges and a series of new camera sensors. At the same time, Samsung seems to be saving on other upgrades with this top model.
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is stuck at 25 watt fast charging. The site notes this after the recent certification with the American telecommunications watchdog FCC. The question is whether, like the S22 Ultra, that really means that the S23 Ultra supports a maximum of 25 watts of fast charging. Samsung has been testing its high-end phones for several years with a 25-watt charger – specifically the EP-TA800 – while the S22 Ultra does support 45-watt fast charging.
Missing Wifi 7 support
The FCC report further revealed that the S23 Ultra test sample supports up to Wi-Fi 6E (802.11AX). Striking, given that the S23 series, according to Qualcomm, is equipped with the recently announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset that supports WiFi 7 (802.11BE). Samsung could choose to use its own modem, but that also seems highly unlikely. Qualcomm’s high-end chipset contains a built-in Bluetooth, WiFi and data modem.
Furthermore, the FCC revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S23 has Ultra S Pen support. The S Pen contains Wacom technology, according to the report, as with previous S Pen variants. Presumably the physical stylus will also take place in the housing of the high-end device. Samsung made this change last year, making the S22 Ultra a direct successor to the Galaxy Note series.
Launch Galaxy S23 series
Take the above rumors with a grain of salt, of course. The Galaxy S23 series is reportedly not launching until February 2023. By then, Samsung could still change some details. Moreover, it is an American copy of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Previously, the European variant of Samsung’s high-end phones was equipped with a different chipset.
